Methods to Design Your Family’s Space Fast and Inexpensively
Keeping Money In Your Bank Account When You Decorate
For most of us, moving into a new space means one thing: a chance to redecorate! Putting a new spin on your home can be great! It can also be scary, overwhelming and expensive. The good news is that there are lots of ways to create a new feeling for your home without having to spend all of your hard earned money. Decorating can be done simply and effectively without emptying a bank account. How can you decorate your house or apartment without dropping your entire paycheck on a decorator? Get some ideas from the following articles.
Move your furniture around Most people don’t know that a simple rearranging of their furniture can be all it takes to give a room a whole new look. Furniture arrangement suggestions and hints can be found everywhere—start at the library and see what you can find! Moving your couch away from the wall is a good start. Beds don’t have to sit in the middle of the room or wall—putting them in the corner can create a new look. Refocus your family room or living room around a coffee table or fireplace instead of the television. Let the television sit unnoticed sometimes. Use decorative countertop containers for your kitchen utensils instead of leaving them in drawers. A little rearranging is sometimes all you need to create a whole new look. Put up some new paint. Let your decorative pieces dictate the color scheme by repainting your walls in neutral colors. When you use neutral colors for most of your house you make the job of choosing decorative items easier. You could also choose to leave one of the walls in its original color. Doing this creates an “accent” wall in your room which is a very popular decorating technique. Using this decorating method saves you time (you only have to paint one wall) and cost effective (you don’t have to buy as much paint). Accent walls are great because if you change your mind about the color it can easily be changed. You can also look up few pretty wallpaper designs.
It’s likely that you own plenty of decorative items that were given to you as gifts that you choose not to display. You probably have at least a handful of decorative pieces hidden away that only see daylight when whoever gave them to you decides to pay you a visit. Why not pull them out and display them? There is no law that says you have to keep them displayed for all eternity but it is a nice (and free!) way to decorate your home while you save up for the more expensive things that you’ve been looking at. Not only will displaying gifted items save you money and time with your home decorating project, it will save you worry and embarrassment if the person who gave the items to you shows up and wants to know why the beautiful plate they gave you isn’t on display!
Most people get great joy out of decorating with things they already own. Tap into your creativity and look at what you already have. An empty space is just as worth looking at as a filled space.
Expensive art is not automatically better than something that you can make with your own hands. Don’t rush—give yourself time to think about the decorations you want most. The faster you try to finish your decorating project the more likely you are to deplete your savings.
